Oh Happy Day

Muffin and I are soooo exhausted because we couldn't believe who walked (or should we say was assisted) thru the door last night..... DADDY'S HOME!

We were a little bit afraid of him last night because he has many tubes and funny bags coming out of him and we don't understand what they are for. Mommy told us not to worry because they are going to be there for a while so we have to all do our best to get used to them and to be careful not to lay on them or step on them. Needless to say, we both slept on Mommy's side of the bed last night. We were both too chicken shit to sleep with Daddy. And.... he was moaning and screaming and groaning all night long. None of us got any sleep. Mommy had to get up every hour to check on these new bag's attached to Daddy.

The above picture is from today and we're slowly getting into a new routine with Daddy. Muffin just sucked right up to him and passed out next to him. Notice me, Lily Belle? I'm way over here on Mommy's side of the couch. It's taking me a little bit longer to navigate around all the medical stuff, so I'm keeping my distance.

Mommy has been an excellent nurse but keeps saying that "men are BIG babies and make horrible patients!"

She has to give Daddy medicine multiple times a day, make sure he drinks a lot of water, help him up and down, get him walking around, change his dressings, flush his tubes, empty his bag's, feed him, wash him, take his temperature and so much more. This has to happen until his next surgery where they will remove his kidney. We hope to know more about a surgery date next week. They have to be sure the infection is 100% kicked to the curb before operating on him.

He is still in a lot of pain as he is having bladder spasms from the urinary catheter and he's still passing blood clots. The tube and bag that was put into his bad kidney is producing tiny clots and very little urine. Mommy keeps a VERY close eye on these clots. It doesn't help that the pain medication gives him bad headaches and he refuses to take it. We've got a call into the Surgeon to see if he can give him something different.

When they left the hospital last night, they gave Mommy 2 large goodie bag's. They were both filled to the brim with all the medical supplies she will need for a few days.

We had a visit today from the Visiting Nursing service who checked Daddy over and was very pleased with Mommy's nursing skills. Then we had a nice man stop by with MORE medical supplies.

Mommy is running out of room to put everything. The delivery today was 100 alcohol wipes and a box of 30 syringes. We're gonna be needing every one of those things too! (Unfortunately, we have to pay for it all thanks to our CRAP insurance. We'll just have to give up ice cream and rawhide.)

While we still have a long road ahead of us, we're just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other. As long as we have each other, we're good!

We are blessed and thankful for your friendship!

Hugs,
Lily Belle

P.S. Grandpa Bob is doing OK at the moment.

  2. We are happy to hear that Daddy is home, that has to be somewhat good news. We are going to continue to cross our paws and add Mom's prayers for surgery and recovery to go well, and for Mom to maintain her own health. Tell Grandpa Bob that he had better be a good boy and stay good too.

  3. We're doing the hap-pee dance here because your Daddy is home. And we'll be even happier when he's fully recovered and all back to normal. Mommy is going to need a lot help from you two. Maybe you can take over the nursing once in a while so Mommy can get a short rest.

  8. Hooray for your mum! SHE says SHE'd probably not be able to do all that nursing (SHE gets a bit sick at medical stuff.) We know you pups are doing all you can to make sure your Dad is calm and cuddled and loved!

  9. Sometimes when humans come home after being sick they have some strange smells. Just be there for Mom while she takes care of Dad and then when you get used to things be there for both of them

  12. Lily Belle and Muffin, I was so glad to find an update and see the picture of your Dad home and you and Muffin snuggled in for a nap. This was good news! Mom is really a busy bee, but it is good she knows how to do all the medical stuff for Dad. Take care.

  17. Gosh almighty we finks your momma deserves a vacation somewhere where the sun is shining, and the water is clear and everyone can wait on hers while she rests. We also are praying for your Daddy to get better real soon. Momma's second grandson had the same problem when he was born, and had to have a special surgery when he was tiny baby. He only has one good kidney now and he is 13 and rides those bulls. Mom finks he is nuts but she loves him.

  18. I'm not here all the time, but I'm so glad your daddy is feeling better. Your mommy is doing a great job being the unpaid nurse. LOL. She really loves your daddy so much and not a lot of people have that kind of relationship.

We hope your daddy gets better soon, and that the evil tubes are removed soon! Hugs.

  22. Phew . . . first of all we are glad your dad is home, that means some improvement. BUTT, you need to keep an eye on your mom cuz a caretaker has a very hard job. So it is good you are cuddling her at night. That is an impawtent job! Crossing our paws for your daddy to have a good surgery and your mom not to crack under the pressures on her!!
