UPDATE on Muffin

Photo

Can we all say, this has been a long, long day.....

It all started yesterday with Muffin getting her yearly exam and shots. She got 2 shots (one in each back side) and also deworming medicine by mouth. Muffin was a champ at the Vet's and didn't put up a fuss at all.

When we got home late yesterday afternoon, Muffin went right to bed. I really had to coax her out for dinner (which believe me, is a furst!) She ate a little dinner and went right back to bed. If you knew Muffin, that is not unusual. She is an EXPERT sleeper! She would sleep day and night if you let her.

At around 2:30 this morning, I awoke to the sound of a dog barfing next to my face in bed. By the time I fully awoke and grabbed my flashlight, Muffin was out of bed and barfing all over the floor. I jumped out of bed and Muffin was trying to make her way through the house to the back door barfing all the way there. Poor little thing just kept going and going and going. I turned on the lights in the house and put on my glasses (didn't want to be stepping where I shouldn't!) I also noticed that her back end where the shots were given was a tad swollen and that Muffin was really hot to the touch.

I couldn't get her outside, as I don't think she had anything left in her. I immediately called the E-Vet. Thank goodness the E-Vet is OUR Vet and they were able to access her medical records immediately. I spoke to the Vet on call and they said to bring her right in as it sounded like an allergic reaction to the medicines.

We harnessed up the girls and off all of us went for a 15 minute drive arriving around 3:15am.

The Vet was waiting by the door for us. They gave her 2 more shots. One was a type of Benedryl and the other was for the barfing. Then they rehydrated her. She looked like a little hunchback. She is now on 2 med's for 4 days and probiotics for 3 weeks.

By the time we arrived home, it was a little after 6am. We had to strip the bed when we got home and also pick up all the barf in the house. Then we TRIED to catch some sleep.

Muffin slept in till around 10am. I was heading out the door to visit Dad at Rehab and she didn't want me to leave her. At least I got in a cup of coffee before heading out. I stayed with Dad for a few hours and had lunch with him. I had to head back home because I had to buy carpet cleaning solution on the way. What a mess we had to clean up!

After doing all that, I laid in bed and curled up with Muffin. She was happy to have her Mommy home. She slept all afternoon and finally got up to eat a little bit of her dinner. I will say she looks better than she did but she is still NOT 100%. She's on the road to recovery but not quite there.

ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND PRAYERS! We've sure had a rough patch  here this year.

I think in the very near future, I'll be doing my postings while wearing a white jacket in a room with padded walls!!

Hugs,
Kim

  6. What is going on with these shots, we had the same thing happen yesterday with Maggie. She had them before and never reacted and then yesterday she had a doozy of a reaction. I hope Muffin is okay. It took Mags about 12 hours to start to come out of it, and then when we woke up this morning she was her normal self, no redness or swelling or hives. Gosh last night she had hives all over her legs and tummy and head, and that was after getting a shot at noon. I felt so sorry for her. She had a rough time getting comfortable so finally we got the air mattress out and i laid down with her and she went to sleep. I kept thinking the benadryl would make her sleepy and it did but not enough to put her to sleep. I hope you have a good day with your muffin. Let us know.

We just had OUR annual visit to the Vet... Yesterday... butt Mom NEVER lets us have more than ONE vaccination per day... We have to go BACK to the Dogtor and get MORE shots next week and Frankie has to go TWO more times since he was due fur THREE THINGYS. Our MOM always takes Benadryl with her when we get a Vaccination. She is such a worry wart.
We have our paws TIGHTLY Crossed that you will be Fine as Frog Furs as soon as they give you a shot and some benadryl. Sorry this happened. Keep us posted.

  16. Oh no! I'm so glad she's alright, and we have all our paws and fingers crossed here she has a smooth recovery. Nola has a slightly less severe action to her first rabies vaccine. Dachshunds are prone to vaccine reactions, so now whenever Nola gets a shot I give Benadryl before it, the rest of the day it gets done, and part of the following day. No more issues.
    Hugs!
