We are going to keep this short and brief because Mommy isn't in the mood to type tonight. I Lily Belle, have rather large paws for a cute, sweet, adorable Doxie and every time I TRY to type, it just don't work out too well. And just furget Muffin doing it, 'cuz she don't type at all!
This morning Mommy took Grandpa Bob to his Cat Scan for his aortic aneurysm. Why she didn't take him for a Dog Scan is beyond our comprehension. We think if she did, he would have gotten better results.
After the Scan, they had to drive back to see the Surgeon for the results. As soon as the Surgeon walked into the room, Mommy could tell it was NOT good news. The look on her face said it all!
The stent that was put in place in 2010 has shifted. They believe it is because the aneurysm is now growing quickly right below the end of the stent and it's pushing the stent out of place. The new bulge in the artery measures over 6+ centimeters. According to the Surgeon, it is at a very dangerous size and needs to be repaired rather quickly. His surgery is scheduled for August 29th.
He also has a 2nd aneurysm that is quite large and they will keep a close eye on that one. They will not fix the 2nd one because it would seriously impede the blood flow to the lower half of his body and organs. So that's an issue for another time.
The Surgeon had a long talk with us about the surgery bcuz Grandpa Bob after all, is 88 and has COPD. For those who don't know, COPD is just a fancy term for "can't breathe worth shit!" His lungs are crap and are getting worse. She said that sometimes when you put someone in his condition on a ventilator for surgery they never come off of it again. We know the risks, enough said!!
Now, the better news is the Surgeon will talk to the Anesthesiologist to see how he feels about keeping Grandpa Bob awake for the surgery and just giving him a local VS being knocked out. She's not sure how that will go over, but said she will give it a shot. She is also concerned that Grandpa wouldn't be comfortable to lay on a hard table that long without moving. Right now it's all up in the air and we won't know until the day of surgery which way it will go. They will also be keeping him in the hospital for a day or two after the surgery.
Not a fun task, but tomorrow Mommy will sit with Grandpa Bob and make sure all his affairs are in order (again.) Hey, this ain't her first rodeo ya know. She's VERY organized bcuz like she says "never get caught with your pants down."
Muffin and I will be helping to nurse him back to health when he comes home from the hospital.
We told Mommy she can pull out her nurses uniform again from the closet.
Mommy said that's for Daddy's eyes only!
So that furends, is the news we're dealing with tonight.
Hugs,
Lily Belle
P.S. I hope you didn't think that was really a picture of Mommy! Mommy's shoes are black, NOT red!
Oh no! Paws crossed for Grandpa Bob. Gotta say though, Momma spit her water out when she read about the nurse outfit!

We will keep all paws and fingers crossed for him. Take care all. Give your mum extra snuggles too cause we reckon she needs them. We're sending slobbery hugs too for your mum. No worries and love, Stella and Rory.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad has had two stents put in & they helped a great deal...Take good care of Grandpa Bob & give him lots of snuggles
ReplyDeleteGoes to show it's always something! Nurse uniform looks great - but I haven't seen a CAP in years! :)
ReplyDeleteIf the surgeon & anesthesiologists are a go for the LOCAL (w/sedation) - GO FOR IT!!! Our docs (group of anesthesiologists) perform frequently with great outcome for the patient (Granpa's included).
Thinking pawsitive . . . Cowboy & Ginger Ale
Well that is one outfit for the gipper wowzer!!! My mom would fall over in those shoes cos she can't walk in very tall shoes..but your dad loves it when you momma puts those duds on. Grandpa Bob knows how much you loves him, and that he is in great hands. We will of course be thinking of you and her on the day of his surgery and sending up lots of prayers. It is very hard when you Dad gets sick.
ReplyDeleteStella Rose
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about Grandpa Bob's aneurysm... well, aneurysms. So, so scary! I haven't been reading your blog for very long, but in the short time I have, it's been easy to see that he has already been through a lot. He JUST got through with the skin cancer surgeries, didn't he? My Dad passed back in early '06, but my Mom is still hanging on. She's nearing 78, and has a laundry list of health problems, so I understand. I'm the last of nine kids, and because I'm the youngest, I suppose... I've been tasked with her will and managing all the crap one has to take care of when a parent passes. Yay. So I understand the unpleasant business of getting the affairs in order too.
ReplyDeleteRegarding local anesthesia vs. general anesthesia... I hope they're meaning local + sedation anesthesia. If that's an option and it's safe for his age, then go for it. I had a relatively minor surgery done on my shoulder that way and I don't remember a thing about it. You're totally out of it, but no need for a ventilator.
Either way, many prayers and pawprayers for a successful surgery. August 29th seems so soon and so far away at the same time. Bless his heart.
Oh dear, a nurse's outfit! Such a serious post, then you throw that in there! ;)
All the mini herd have their paws crossed for Grandpa Bob!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that Grandpa has aneurysms! Mommy's brother passed away unexpectedly a few years ago from a brain aneurysm. Mommy says he was way too young and is still so sad about his being gone. :(
ReplyDeleteI will keep Grandpa in my thoughts and prayers. Much love to you!
Woofs & huggies, <3
~Bailey (Yep, I'm a girl!)
Paw hugs that your grandpa gets better! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteOh Noes gurls!!! I'll be keepin' my paws crossed and Ma will be keepin' her fingers crossed that Grandpa Bob will work through this. My Gma had COPD, and no, it's not funs at all! Ma understands all that that involves, and she gives you {{{{hugs}}}, and will be thinkin' of all of you these next few weeks!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
