The Great Race ~ 2012

Holy Toledo! What a day.... Today in our hometown, we had two exciting events take place. Though Muffin and I had to stay home, that was fine with us. It was hotter than the hinges outside today and our cuz' Freeda came over to spend the day with us. It was an adult day out and a dog day in.

First off, Mommy finally got to meet Miss Cindy and Mr Charlie from  http://birdbrainsanddogtales.wordpress.com/. Mommy said it was pawesome to meet them and just so you know, they plan on getting together soon cuz Miss Cindy just HAS to meet me and Muffin.

However... We were warned that Miss Cindy has a thing for doxie Tasha from http://dachsieswithmoxie.blogspot.com/. In fact, when Miss Cindy went to visit the Dachsies with Moxie in Ohio, she tried to STEAL Tasha! Yup, put her right in a carry-all bag and tried to sneak her outta the house. Good thing WHN was paying close attention and adverted the Great Escape Caper. So heed this warning Miss Cindy..... You can't steal me, but you can sure come visit anytime you want!

Ok, back to the other exciting news from Fairport, New York. Look what was going on:

Now if you've never head of the Great Race, you really should check out their website at www.greatrace.com. Here is their description (cuz it's much better than I could ever explain): The Great Race is a cross-country rally that pits driver/navigator teams against the clock and against each other. This year’s event will be around the Great Lakes, covering 19 cities, 2 countries and 4 states. Entrants will participate in a timed, controlled-speed, endurance competition over scenic public highways and roads. The scores for each team are the result of a team’s ability to follow all designated course instructions precisely.

Following specific course instructions, teams navigate through 4 to 7 timed checkpoints each day. Their arrival time at each checkpoint is recorded and compared against the perfectly driven route, with each second off the perfect time, (either early or late) counted as penalty points. The winning team is the one with the lowest overall score (the most accurately driven route) at the end of the event.

There are 99 teams participating this year. We even have a team from our hometown running in the race. Howard Sharp and his son are driving their 1916 Hudson HC. They were the winners in 2011 and we're keeping our fingers crossed that they can be winners this year too. (Wouldn't you know that Mommy was in the bathroom when our hometown hero's came first into town.)

The streets were packed with people who came out to see the racers.

We even rolled out the Red Carpet.

Our Chief of Police was there to cheer them all on as they rode into town.

With a little help from the crowd, this racer needed a little bit of help crossing the Erie Canal Bridge.

The town even had an antique car show going on this morning in support of the racers. There had to be at least 100 cars.

This is our Aunt Rona sitting in one of the antiques.

What a 'hot' rod. Get it? ~ hot ~ flames...

Here is a picture of our most very favorite car of the day! Mommy took it just for us.

Now, doesn't that just make you smile...

Hugs,
Lily Belle

  6. Lily Belle- make sure that you are wearing a GPS device when Aunt Cindy visits- Her bags are hypnotically beautiful and you will find yourself getting very sleepy! Make sure there are lots of treats for you in the bag she brings! (you don;t want to get hungry while you are being dachsie napped)

  8. Those cars are fantastic. We even woke our human brother up (it's summer, no school, so he is allowed to sleep like us if he wants, too... I think it's cause he is 15 and bugs mom's brainbox to death and sleeping means mom isn't running him around to friends and pools and stuffs) He is a huge car fan and was dying over all those cars! :)

Too bad you couldn't go, friends, but we agree, if it's all hot out staying inside for a nap is the way to go!
